Happy New Year!
Can you believe we’re stepping into a brand-new year? There’s something so exciting about the New Year—a time to start fresh, dream big, and embrace the opportunities ahead. At Broad Street, we’re starting this year with our mission front and center: to know and share the life-changing love of Jesus Christ.
That mission shouldn’t just be words we speak—it’s who we are called to be. It’s the heartbeat of everything we should do, from gathering for worship to reaching out in love to our community. And the exciting part? A new year means new chances to live it out.
I know many of us are thinking about New Year’s resolutions right now. Maybe you’ve set a goal to exercise more, get organized, or spend more time with family. Those are great! But what if we also made some resolutions for our faith and the church? What if we resolved to:
• Know Christ's love more deeply: Let’s commit to growing in faith this year—through prayer, Bible study, or even simply showing up consistently to worship and fellowship. If you’ve stepped away from church due to habit, past hurts, or something holding you back, now is the perfect time to try again. Let go of old wounds, embrace forgiveness, and take the first step back into community and worship.
• Share Christ's love more boldly: What would it look like to serve our neighbors in new and creative ways? Maybe it’s volunteering, reaching out to someone in need, or even just offering a word of encouragement.
• Live Christ's love more fully together: Church is about relationships, and this year, let’s resolve to strengthen them. Let’s get to know each other better, support one another, and make sure everyone feels like they belong.
The best part about resolutions? We don’t have to do them alone. God is walking alongside us every step of the way. Isaiah 43:19 reminds us, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” God is already at work, opening doors and creating opportunities for us to live out God's love.
So here’s to a year of faith, growth, and love—together. I’m grateful to walk this journey with all those who enter Broad Street UMC, and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for the church in 2025.
Peace, Pastor Tracy
